| Akamas |
|
Located in the west of Cyprus. The wild beauty of Akamas , as well as its significance as the last remaining lowland wilderness in Cyprus, is unknown to many. Unique not only for its morphology and geology but also for its variety of habitats, Akamas is indeed very special. The Akamas range rises to about 650 meters. The Thalassines Spilies (Sea Caves) area, on the coast near Peyia, with its sea caves and arches of white chalk, was once the breeding home of the Mediterranean Monk seal. Now this seal can only be seen occasionally in the more remote parts of the coastline. A little further north past Yeronissos island and the picturesque small fishing harbour of Ayios Yeorgios, strech the well-known surfs wept beaches of Toxeftra and Lara, where Green Turtles breed.
